Mission Action Team

Description: Solicit, evaluate and recommend grant recipients for Better World Fund and Mission Accrual AccountsCommunicate mission related “opportunities to serve” to the congregation.
Purpose: To serve our neighbors, where ever they may be, by creating a culture of giving both time and money, and to encourage and facilitate Piedmont Church members and friends participating in mission projects.

Time Required: 2-10 hours per month; monthly meetings on 3rd Monday at 7 pm.

Alternative Gift Market
Description:
Help to select agencies, create the catalog, plan and facilitate the sale on three Sunday mornings. The Christmas Alternative Gift Market benefits a wide variety of worthy projects around the world and purchasers of donations get a handsome gift card for their loved one, describing the donation within. The AGM is set up in Guild Hall after worship services in late November and early December. A printed and an online catalog is also available around that time.
Purpose: This is a unique chance to get an early start on Christmas shopping and at the same time support various life -giving projects from around the world and near to home. You will be able to purchase food for the hungry, care for the sick, shelter for the homeless, renewal for our planet and much more – truly meaningful alternatives to the usual holiday – in honor of your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and children’s teachers.
Time Required: 2-20 hours from October through Christmas

Children Rising
Description:
Tutoring elementary school children, 2nd and 3rd grades.
Purpose: Matches local churches and corporations with needs of schools.

Lakeshore Elementary

George Mark Children’s Home
Description:
Church members can get involved in activities such as gardening, helping with special events, adopt a family at the holidays.
Purpose: This is a home in San Leandro which provides complete medical, emotional and spiritual care to children with life limiting illnesses and to their families.
Time Required: Varies. For people who can make a commitment of time on a regular basis, volunteer training as preparation for working directly with our special children and their families, please contact George Mark Volunteer Coordinator, Tami Blaj at 510-346-4624

Imani Community Church
Description:
We will seek opportunities to share life and faith together through experiences of joint worship, fellowship and service. We will uphold each other in prayer and seek to mutually encourage and strengthen our congregations.
Time Required: Intermittent

Habitat for Humanity
Description:
Volunteer on the construction site to build houses! No previous construction experience necessary. No tool belt needed.
Purpose: Inspired by God’s love, Habitat’s mission is to create successful homeownership opportunities for families with limited incomes by building sustainable housing and revitalizing neighborhoods. Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity East Bay was formed as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties
Time Required: Usually in one day increments. Frequency and duration based on volunteer desires and Habitat needs.

City Team
Description:
Volunteers from the church furnish Christmas boxes and make donations of time and/or goods such as canned goods, turkeys or hams during the holidays. Winter coats are collected in the Guild Hall and taken to city Team for people who are living without the means to buy coats for cold winter weather. Volunteers also serve meals in the shelter.
Time Required: Usually in one day increments. Frequency and duration based on volunteer desires and CityTeam needs.
