‘COME AND SEE’ NEW MEMBER GATHERINGS

Saturday, October 5, 9 – 10:30 am
Sunday, October 6, 11:30 am -12:30 pm
Tuesday, October 8, 7 – 8 pm

If you are new to Piedmont Community Church and would like to know more about how to connect to the community here, you are invited to attend a gathering we call ‘Come and See.’ We’ll meet at the church to get acquainted, share a bit of our stories of faith and life, and learn more about our mission and ministries. Refreshments will be provided. Care is available for children 7 and under. For more information and to RSVP, contact Dr. Don Ashburn at (510) 547-5700 ext. 105, or Don@PiedmontChurch.org. Let him know which gathering you’ll attend, and if you’ll need childcare. If you can’t make one of these times, he can also set up an alternative time and date to meet with you individually.

New members of Piedmont Community Church will be received at the 10:30 am service on Sunday, October 13.

KIDZ CLUB LEMONADE THIS SUNDAY
We will serve lemonade and cookies in the courtyard after the 10:30 am service as a fundraiser for the International Justice Mission (IJM) and the fight to end slavery. Slavery does exist today. IJM is the largest international anti-slavery organization. There are more than 45 million people, many of them children, who are being bought, sold and used against their will. IJM and KIDZ Club need you to help end slavery. Contact Leslie at Leslie@PiedmontChurch.org

COMMUNITY PRAYER BOXES
We have installed prayer boxes at the main entrance and in the breezeway. Our congregation, and the wider Piedmont community, is invited to write joy and concerns for our church to pray over in confidence. The prayers will be lifted up by church staff and by our prayer circle.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE MEAN?
Part of being a Christian is reading and reflecting on the words of Scripture. Yet, figuring out what a particular passage means is rarely as simple as just assuming “it means what it says.” There is always interpretation involved, whether we’re conscious of it or not. Join Dr. Don Ashburn for a 3-part series of classes in November where we’ll explore various ways of interpreting the Bible. We’ll meet on November 3, 10 and 17 at 11:30 am in the Kettlewell Room (located beneath Guild Hall). No previous experience studying the Bible is expected. Just come as you are. For more information, contact Dr. Ashburn at Don@PiedmontChurch.org or (510) 547-5700, ext. 105

TUTOR FOR CHILDREN-RISING
Children Rising, formerly Faith Network of the East Bay, is a ministry supported by our church for many years. It offers many opportunities for you to connect with a struggling Oakland elementary student, inspiring hope and the confidence to succeed. Last school year, members of the congregation helped change the lives of 50 children. No prior teaching experience required. Their reading and math tutoring programs make it simple for you to step in and be effective. They match you with a child and offer multiple locations and time slots to accommodate your schedule, typically once a week for 2 hours.
