2020 PLEDGE CAMPAIGN
Our annual pledge campaign, Because of You, is in full swing. Pledge cards have been mailed and are available in the pews. Our church is blessed by your gifts. We are growing, we are reaching more people in this community and around the world. The exciting thing is that the more money we receive, the more we will be able to do as we share God’s love and His grace and we serve those in need. Please fill out a pledge card today and place in the offering plate, or visit PiedmontChurch.org/PLEDGE

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE MEAN?
Part of being a Christian is reading and reflecting on the words of Scripture. Yet, figuring out what a particular passage means is rarely as simple as just assuming “it means what it says.” There is always interpretation involved, whether we’re conscious of it or not. Join Dr. Don Ashburn for a 3-part series of classes in November where we’ll explore various ways of interpreting the Bible. We’ll meet today and next Sunday at 11:30 am in the Kettlewell Room (located beneath the Guild Hall). No previous experience studying the Bible is expected. Just come as you are. For more information, contact Dr. Ashburn at: firstname.lastname@example.org or (510) 547-5700, ext. 105
All women are invited to a retreat at San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, CA starting at 5 pm on January 31, 2020 through lunch on February 2. During our time together, we will explore Christian spirituality in its many and varied forms while making time for personal renewal, group interaction and relaxation. Lodging is in double rooms (2 beds) and a limited number of single rooms; all rooms have a private bath. The all-inclusive cost (room, linens, six meals, snacks, beverages, etc.) is $325 each for a shared room and $365 for a single room. To make a reservation, contact Judy Wright at email@example.com. Payment is due at the time of reservation. Make checks payable to Piedmont Community Church with “Women’s Retreat” in the memo line, and mail to Judy Wright at 8 Hillcrest Court, Oakland, CA 94619
SHOEBOXES, COOKIES AND MILK NEXT SUNDAY
Come to Guild Hall after the 10:30 am service next Sunday for cookies and milk and to fill a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. Please bring items to fill boxes. We will provide cookies, milk and shoeboxes and will have some items available to fill the boxes. We will be accepting donations of items and money through November 17. Contact Leslie Quantz at Leslie@PiedmontChurch.org
COLLECTION DRIVE FOR REFUGEE FAMILIES
The Refugee Task Force is now working with the Jewish Family & Community Service (JFCS) to welcome and support our refugee family, the Fazli’s. The JFCS household setup process is streamlined and the Fazli’s have already made a “shopping trip” to the JFCS warehouse to select apartment furniture, clothing and other personal items. JFCS is asking our church to help replenish inventory of their most needed items. You can help by donating newly purchased full size shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and shaving items. For babies, all sizes of diapers especially sizes 2 & 3, baby wipes and bathing wash. Drop-offs in the courtyard today and November 17 and 24. Contact Ann Lin firstname.lastname@example.org or Suzanne Latham email@example.com
SUPPORT HARBOR HOUSE CHRISTMAS STORE
On Saturday, December 14, Harbor House will host its annual Christmas Store. Believing that parents would prefer to provide for their own children rather than receive a handout, we’ll create a “Christmas Store” at Harbor House where parents will have the opportunity to purchase high quality toys at greatly reduced prices ($2 per toy). Imagine the sense of pride and joy they feel on Christmas morning when their children open a gift that they have hand-selected and gift-wrapped. Watch your weekly church email blast for a link to the Amazon store.
COMMUNITY PRAYER BOXES
In addition to the prayer boxes at the main entrance and in the breezeway, we have a beautiful box next to the lectern to safely hold your prayer cards. Your prayers will be lifted up by church staff and by our prayer circle.
We made a short, 2-minute film from our recent pulpit exchange with Imani. Watch Dr. McNabb deliver his final sermon at Imani before his 2020 retirement. Click here to watch
