Music

In worship, music allows us to experience the divine in ways that go beyond words.

It opens our hearts, lifts our spirits, and draws us closer to God and to one another. Music also reflects the beauty and diversity of God’s beloved world, inviting us into deeper connection, celebration, and reflection.

At Piedmont Church, the music ministry supports the congregation’s engagement in worship and offers meaningful opportunities for artistic expression, spiritual growth, and service. Whether through choral singing, instrumental playing, or worship leadership, we seek to glorify God through music that is both heartfelt and excellent.

At its heart, the Music Ministry at Piedmont Church exists to offer deeply meaningful worship experiences and to support the spiritual journey of our congregation and community. We are also committed to cultivating a standard of excellence in sacred music that reflects the rich cultural and artistic life of the Bay Area.

Choir

The Chancel Choir is the flagship ensemble of Piedmont Community Church, comprising more than 30 singers who lead worship weekly and contribute to the church’s musical and spiritual life. Rehearsing Wednesday evenings, the choir sings a rich and diverse repertoire, ranging from Renaissance motets to significant works by living composers. The ensemble includes both dedicated volunteers and professional section leaders who are committed to excellence and artistry in sacred music. Twice yearly, the Choir offers performances of extended works, often accompanied by orchestra or other ensembles. A highlight of our year is the Annual Christmas Concert, a Bay Area tradition featuring full orchestra, choir, and guest artists. This beloved event welcomes hundreds from the wider community to experience the story of Christmas through stirring sacred music, timeless classics, and festive celebration.

To join the choir, a basic proficiency in music reading is helpful, and we warmly welcome those with choral experience who are eager to grow and contribute in community.

Handbell Ensemble

Our Handbell Ensemble brings a joyful and resonant dimension to worship several times a year, often joined by guest instrumentalists. With 15–20 members playing intermediate to advanced repertoire, the group rehearses on Tuesday evenings in a spirit of camaraderie and shared musical purpose. Basic music-reading skills are helpful, and we welcome new ringers who enjoy a rhythmic and collaborative musical experience.

Instrumental Musicians

Our congregation is blessed with gifted instrumentalists across a range of styles — from classical strings and winds to jazz, folk, and contemporary. These musicians contribute their artistry to worship and concerts throughout the year, enriching the musical life of our church in countless ways.
