Tuesday Pizza Lunch in the new Youth Room!
PCC's
Youth Africa Mission Team visits Malawi 13 PCC High
Schoolers and 4 adult leaders spent two weeks there in June, 2005, visiting
our sister church, Kafita CCAP in Lilongwe, assisting with the building
of homes for the elderly, running a Bible camp for orphans, and visiting
the Crisis Nursery. They also had a unique chance to deepen relationships
with Kafita youth on a shared retreat at nearby Lake Malawi. A second group returned in 2007.

Youth
Sunday School program The
ROCK youth group PCC's youth program, the ROCK, offers high school students a unique setting for building both friendships and faith. All youth groups meet in the youth room of the Christian Education building at the church. The program has grown rapidly and the evenings are filled with laughter, great discussions and fellowship. The high school youth group leaders are dedicated and enthusiastic, opening their hearts and minds to the students' needs and concerns. In addition to the weekly meetings, the ROCK students go on weekend trips to Great America, Westminster Woods winter camp, and to Lake Tahoe for a river rafting trip. Other high school activities include movie nights, pre-football game dinners, food fights, bowling nights, and holiday parties. This past year, the group held a car wash in order to raise money for the September 11 Red Cross disaster relief fund, and they prepared and served food for a men's shelter. The biggest and most significant event of the year for many high school students is their mission trip to Mexico (see below). The students give up their Spring breaks in order to spend a week building homes for impoverished families. Each year the experience is one that enriches and impacts their lives in so many ways. If you have any questions regarding the high school youth program, please contact the Youth Ministries office for more information: 510-547-5700, ext. 110. Please visit the upcoming events page for current event information. |

A lay ministry volunteer group of parents organizes a potluck with guided discussions around topics of interest to parents of teens and meets in the home of a family a few times a year. Please check the upcoming events page to see if there are any MS/HS parents potlucks scheduled for the near future. Like all ministries at PCC, student ministries depend on the leadership and participation of church members in a variety of capacities. Check out all of the ways you can serve students in the Opportunities to Serve Directory of Lay Ministries booklet (pdf).

Annual
Mexico Mission Trip
Every spring, a large group of high schoolers and adult leaders heads south for a week to build houses for disadvantaged communities south of the border. Approximately 190 students and over 30 adult volunteers went on the 2005 trip -- together they built 14 houses! These students who forego a typical spring break vacation to serve others who are less fortunate come back feeling transformed, with greater understandings of life in a developing country, the meaning of Christian service, and the satisfaction that their hard efforts have made a positive impact on the lives of a few families. These new perspectives are priceless, and the memories last a lifetime! e-mail Scott Kail, Pastor of Student Ministries, for more info or call 547-5700, ext. 110. Please note that your family does not need to belong to PCC in order for your student to participate! Click on the link above for information on this year's trip.
Embarking on a mission of this scale requires that support teams start addressing all aspects of planning months in advance. Fundraising, gathering of supplies, recruitment of participants and leaders, transportation logistics, group preparation and safety training, correspondence with the facilitating ministry organization, and administrative/financial details are just a few areas of expertise that require the efforts and support of many volunteers from the church. |
