Adult Studies - This is an adult education program that runs during the school year months and is offered once a week on most Sundays in between worship services. Classes usually last an hour, from 8:45 - 9:45 am and are led by church ministers and various guest lecturers from the wider community. To get an idea of the wide range of topics covered, visit the Adult Studies page. Please note the format of this program may change this fall. Adult Fellowship - This informal group of adults gathers for social events, outings, or potlucks once a month, usually in the home of a member. Holiday parties and annual barbecues are especially popular and are easy ways to stay in touch with church friends and meet new members. An Adult Fellowship Lay Ministry Team organizes events and recruits hosts. All-Church Dinners - These are popular occasions for everyone to join together in Guild Hall for a special meal (usually a gourmet feast offered by the volunteer Loaves and Fishes crew for a reasonable fee). While some are coordinated to mark important days in the liturgical seasons, such as Ash Wednesday or Maundy Thursday, others are festive celebrations of a theme such as Harvest time. Altar Guild - Members of the Altar guild are volunteer members who serve for 3 years. They are responsible for coordinating the decoration and preparation of the worship space, preparation of communion for monthly communion services, and weekly donations and dedications of flower arrangements. Church Boards - The boards are the governing bodies of the church, each consisting of approximately 12 volunteer members who serve 3 year terms. The Board of Trustees governs paid personnel, finances, budgets, stewardship campaigns, buildings and grounds, and the annual congregational meeting. The Board of Christian Education oversees children's chapel and church school, curricula development, volunteer teacher training, nursery care, confirmation programming, youth groups, family fellowship, and the annual high school mission trip to Mexico. The Board of Deacons coordinates adult education programming, new member orientation, mission giving, local community outreach projects, hospitality, and all-church dinners. FUN! - FUN stands for Family Unity Night, or simply Family Unity for short, and consists of a group of parents of elementary school aged children. Adults gather for fellowship and conversation and often children are welcome and enjoy their own supervised activities. Gatherings frequently feature a guest speaker, small group discussions, and/or a potluck meal at a member's home. Lay Ministries - This exciting program helps match volunteers with others who are interested in collaborating on a volunteer ministry together. The resulting group is a Lay Ministry Team. The Lay Ministry coordinating team attempts to honor every gift, skill, and interest by making the best matches possible--and with such a wide variety of ministry groups and activities going on around PCC, this is not so hard to imagine! Take a look at the time and talent survey to get an idea of how folks get involved. LiveWire - The youth group for middle school students, LiveWire, meets once a week during the school year and gathers on other occasions for fun outings. Facilitated by a full time youth minister and a team of adult volunteer mentors, this program creates a safe space in which young people can share with one another, find guidance from adults, and develop their faith in a life-affirming context. Please note that there is an additional confirmation preparation program for 7th graders, beginning in fall, 2005. Lunch Bunch - This group is especially popular with seniors but is open to anyone who would like to come along for a monthly outing on the PCC church bus to a local site of interest and restaurant for lunch together. Fees are determined for each outing and trips often feature guided tours. The bus usually departs at 10 am on the first Saturday of the month and returns in mid to late afternoon. Special pick-ups at retirement communities are available. Men's Bible Study Group - This group is led by volunteers and meets once a week early on Saturday mornings. Coffee provided! PCC Angels - This is PCC's adult (18 or older) coed recreational softball team. The team always has a lot of fun--no special skills or talent required! We play other teams in the city of Piedmont's recreational league approximately one evening a week at Coaches field from mid June through early August. The Rock - The Rock is the high school youth group. Nurtured by a full time youth minister and a team of adult volunteer mentors, this program provides a space in the lives of teens where they can share with one another, find guidance from adults, and develop their faith in a life-affirming context. Students enjoy educational activities, games, fellowship, snacks, frequent outings, and the annual spring break Mexico Mission housebuilding trip. Spiritual Formation - A group of adults, led by volunteers, which meets once a week for spiritual formation. This usually involves a group discussion around a chosen text or question, and prayers are offered for those who have requested them. Workdays - Twice a year, usually timed to occur in the season leading up to the major holidays of Easter and Christmas, volunteers of all ages show up on a Saturday morning for a couple of hours of basic cleaning, organizing, and maintenance tasks on the church's to-do list. Coffee and donuts are provided, and the beautiful results of these efforts are always rewarding!
