Piedmont Community Church Mission Giving Philosophy (approved in 2002)

As Christians, we desire to contribute to benevolent projects, both church-related and secular, outside the boundaries of Piedmont Community Church. The Missions program of the Board of Deacons is dedicated to helping people fulfill this pledge through disbursements of church funds in accordance with the following principles.

1. The scope of our giving may include international, national and local projects with no necessity to weight the distribution equally.

2. We recommend that no monies be designated to groups with partisan political agendas as their primary direction. (amended March 2002)

3. Our giving is to non-profit agencies and institutions and not to individuals.

4. We should be open to (but not limited to or directed by) the particular interests, suggestions and desires of members of our congregation and staff.

5. Some consideration may be given to the potential benefit of continuity from year to year, though this should not be binding.

6. Competent leadership and effective actions of the organizations considered shall be of great concern when evaluating the impact of our contributions.

7. We require agencies and institutions to submit a written request for funding including a budget and an indication of their plans for our contribution.

8. We should be aware that by recommending and making a contribution to an organization, we are perceived to be endorsing their goals and programs.
